Girls night with (L-R) Prudence Fenton, Pamela Adlon, Pam’s mom Marina, me, and Diva Zappa. I’ve known two of these gals since they were teenagers – Pam, now a brilliant two-time Emmy Best Actress in a Comedy nominee, not to mention my favorite animated voice of all time, Bobby Hill on King Of The Hill, was 17 when she was my art assistant when I was doing a ton of music videos in the late 80’s. And Diva was the baby Zappa when I camped out at the Zappa abode for many a year starting in the 90’s on. Lots of cheese consumed.

The Detroit Free Press has its culinary tastes in order as it chose Chef Greg’s Soul “N” The Wall, my home away from home in my hometown Detroit, as one of the Motor City’s Top 18 restaurants of 2018. I love Chef Greg and his food so much and am there so often my portrait eating my favorite sandwich, the Boogaloo Wonderland, partially named for my song “Boogie Wonderland”, is painted on the outside wall. If you’re in Detroit now and haven’t been to this gem, go now!

This is one of my fave photos of all time, not just because I’m singing with JONI MITCHELL at my birthday pajama party in the early 90’s but because we’re being accompanied by the infamous and wonderful DEL RUBIO TRIPLETS, who I’m happily credited with discovering. If you don’t know them, get googling as they sit high atop the Kitsch Sundae that is my life. To say the hi and lo ends of the musical scale are represented in this photo doesn’t begin to describe the musical mayhem we created that night. #TBT

Celebrated part of my birthday at the opening of The Color Purple Musical at the Greenway Court Theatre in LA Saturday night. Show was great but my favorite part was when the cast serenaded me with Happy Birthday. Thank you Celie, Shug, Sofia, Harpo, Mister, Church Ladies and the whole TCP community! It was a great place to be as another year gets ripped off the calendar. Quick songwriter alert: I was thrilled to have Mike Stoller, one of the greatest songwriters of all time, at the show and staying for cake (bottom right). (“Stand By Me, ”Hound Dog,” “On Broadway,” “Spanish Harlem,” and a zilllllllion more.)
