"Chanukah
Bush Lot"
There is nothing more heartwarming than the arrival of the first Christmas tree lots of the season. So why shouldn't the Jewish people be allowed the same joy seeing the bloom of their beloved symbol of holiday cheer, the Chanukah bush? That's what my friend, Roger Sharfman, thought when he created this delightful forest for the chosen people in his Birmingham, Michigan neighborhood. I bought a charming Bonsai Chanukah bush from him and every December I tape a photo of it on my refrigerator to salute all my delightful Yiddish friends. Happy Chanukah! |

"The
Shulmans Got A Great Bush For The Money"
The Shulmans were elated when they purchased this excellent example of the Chanukah Bush species. My friend, Lu Shulman, took a Creative Chanukah Crafts class and made lovely ornaments out of food colored matzoh balls dipped into resin. They looked marvelous on the bush until Lu's pet hamster got out of its cage and consumed the kosher ornaments while the family was at synagogue. Balls or no balls, the Shulman bush was, by far, the most impressive holiday foliage I have ever seen (though I have yet to behold the famous Rockefeller Center Christmas tree). Happy Chanukah! |

"Still Life -Lovely Gefilte Fish and Garnish" I don't know which ocean the gefilte comes from, but I sure hope to fish there someday. I first tasted this distinctive molded amphibian at my friend Ceal's 'Bridge 'n Dreidel' Chanukah celebration. I was quite surprised by its taste and to this day keep a jar or two around the house. I apologize for not painting the jelly that usually accompanies the gefilte, but I have never warmed up to that particular foodstuff. I hope it doesn't ruin the authenticity of this lovely Yiddish plate. Happy Chanukah! |
