I, of course, was always aware of Tony Orlando & Dawn. You couldn’t be alive in the 70’s and NOT know about them. The airwaves blitzkreg of “Tie A Yellow Ribbon” and the fantastically kitschy Tony Orlando & Dawn Show made that impossible. So when Marcella Detroit told me that Dawn came from Detroit there was no way I wasn’t going to get those girls on “The D”.
Joyce and Pam Vincent were among the first of the famous singers to put their vocals on. I was used to teaching people the song on the spot but these gals came in prepared, complete with harmonies and nailed that sucker! Seriously, they sounded SO great! And then Telma Hopkins, also of Dawn, heard about it and she’s coming over in the next few weeks to add her voice. So Allee Willis & Dawn are totally in da D house!
