Made in the 1950&#8217;s and covered with Ricky Ricardo inspired hands poking out of frilly cuffs and playing Cha Cha keyboards, I&#8217;ve slapped this skin with my hands so many times I can&#8217;t tell you. A lot of times I strike it with mallets. It&#8217;s got a nice fat djembe sound and when I use soft mallets on it that I wrap in sweat socks it doubles as a tympani.<\/p>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/www.alleewillis.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/11\/conga-aw_1552.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-25277\" title=\"conga-aw_1552\" src=\"https:\/\/www.alleewillis.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/11\/conga-aw_1552.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"450\" height=\"338\" srcset=\"https:\/\/alleewillis.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/11\/conga-aw_1552.jpg 450w, https:\/\/alleewillis.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/11\/conga-aw_1552-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 450px) 100vw, 450px\" \/><\/a>\n<p>The conga lives in a kind of corner of my recording studio where it&#8217;s constantly knocked over. The spills seem to work for it.
