I love this list maker and while this was made in the 50’s, most of the foods are still relevant. What is hilarious is the total absence of green vegetables. There isn’t even a vegetable category, let alone one that says spinach, asparagus, lettuce, broccoli, cabbage etc. There is a category for starch, but that is easily covered by bread, cake, potatoes and biscuits. And it isn’t even alphabetical. I love that bicuits come between coffee and cream. Hello. This listmaker was high on something.
What Allee has to say about this: These wooden peg board shopping lists are fairly common so I wouldn’t normally award this a Certifikitsch Of AuthenKitschity but this one is so sloppily executed it’s screaming for recognition.
It’s a little hard to see but “Shopping Reminder” Is painted clearly at the top of this device. It would have been more beneficial if someone had reminded the designer that vegetables are perhaps more important than matches and vinegar. I also love the ‘B,’ before ‘powder’ and ’soda’ though baby and bicarbonate are clearly two different B’s. And, wouldn’t a period have been more appropriate after the B’s than a comma?
I do agree that the designer had some kind of substance abuse going as the list starts off in alphabetical order and then all of a sudden he remembers biscuits in the middle of the C’s. He’s thrown off again when he gets to ‘pepper’, I guess thinking that someone would forget about salt if they weren’t listed together. And then, oops, he forgot about onions too. |
