How Are You!

This fantastic little treasure was discovered at PIC N SAVE – When you open the bottom drawer “The Entertainer” plays and the disc rotates back and forth, causing the invisible man in his prismatic outfit to do a jaunty little dance. The choice of an exclamation point over a question mark in the piece’s title is endearing enough, but the most eye-catching feature on this beauty probably wasn’t intentional:

The dapper fellow dances thanks to a rod that moves back and forth, rocking the disc the pieces are attached to. That rod sticks out right between the little entertainer’s legs, adding a bit of anatomy to an otherwise invisible man. To top it off, the black rod has a threaded silver end (which catches the light beautifully, I must say). So the music plays and the man saunters along (his “little walking stick” waving back and forth in time to the music), letting all the world know there’s no need to ask how he’s doing. He’s doing just fine, thank you very much!

What Allee has to say about this:
At first glance I didn’t think this was kitschy enough for me but upon reading your explanation, WOW!!

First, that this was bought at PIC N SAVE, my favorite bargain store ever and where I’ve found some of my most exceptional treasures.

Next, that they chose to use an ‘!’ over a ‘?’ to top off a question. That misuse of the English language, usually committed when the manufacturer is in a different country, always rates high on the Kitsch scale.

I’ve never had much patience for the song, “The Entertainer”. The thought of hearing it over and over again would be torturous to me were it not for that magic ‘little walking stick’ waving back and forth in time. Under these circumstances I would find this song more than palpable.

I also love the fact that the body parts SO don’t lineup.

First impressions can be very misleading indeed. Thank you for the in-depth description so that I can appreciate this truly wonderful work of kitsch.
