Standing 22 inches tall and 24 inches from stem to stern, this homemade tall ship uses string to represent sails.
What Allee has to say about this: This is a rarer kind of string art in that most in the genre are attached to a flat board inside of a frame. You don’t often see freestanding objects so this one’s pretty special.
Although I own a lot of string art (none freestanding like this) I don’t really like it as it’s such a pain in the butt to keep clean. But I have owls, ships and skyscrapers and usually pick them up when I see them for cheap. Then I wrap them up in plastic bags unless one is so superb it deserves wall space. The one time I tried to clean all my string art I used a sponge but it made the yarn (used instead of string) smell like it’d been in a moldy cellar for a decade. Then I tried to vacuum it and the sail popped right off of the nails holding it down and clogged up my Ronco Miracle Broom. |
