Matchbooks from the days when even grocery shopping was glamorous. Two of the “Shop SAFEWAY…to be sure” matchbooks, each with their own exciting grocery related activities protrayed, and one from the Franklin Credit Union.

What Allee has to say about this:
I’m awarding this one a Certifikitsch Of AuthenKitschity on the basis of the Safeway matchbooks. I guess they gave them away when you bought cigarettes, which I never did. I love the early 60s little cocktail suit on the purple one and the polka dot fashion headband on the pink one.

Great that you have two of them. Is the pink one pink on both sides or is one side of each of them pink and the other purple?

I wish I could see better what both of these women had purchased. It’s that supermarket packaging going on in the 1960s that can really give me a thrill.

I like the Franklin Credit Union matchbook too, especially because all those faces have been so ripped off in clip art. But the Safeway ones are the real gems here.
